New Delhi, Oct 23: A high-level meeting took place in Thimphu, where India and Bhutan assessed their bilateral security collaboration, border management, and related topics. The agenda included issues like mobile signal spillover, future plans for integrated check posts, and various cross-border concerns.
The 14th India-Bhutan Meeting on Border Management and Security occurred on October 16-17, focusing on enhancing the capabilities of Bhutan's police force, as stated in an official announcement.
Discussions also encompassed the upkeep of boundary pillars, cross-border movement, and other facets of bilateral cooperation. Both delegations expressed their satisfaction with the constructive and friendly dialogue, reaffirming their dedication to maintaining a secure and prosperous border region.
Leading the Indian delegation was Rajendra Kumar, Secretary of the Department of Border Management within the Ministry of Home Affairs, while the Bhutanese delegation was headed by Sonam Wangyel, Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Indian team included representatives from various agencies such as the Sashastra Seema Bal, Land Ports Authority of India, Department of Telecommunications, Narcotics Control Bureau, Survey of India, Customs, and officials from the governments of Assam, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Both nations reaffirmed their strong friendship and commitment to enhancing cooperation in both traditional and emerging sectors.
Their long-standing partnership, grounded in shared geography, culture, and interpersonal connections, continues to exemplify regional cooperation, as noted in the release.
The previous meeting of this kind was conducted in 2019.
